Buying a Ferret
Are you really ready for your furry friend. Bearing in mind that they need a lot of time and attention as they are very sociable and therefore you are also prepared to keep atleast 2 together, you have the funds for vet bills as they are prone to illnesses like cats and dogs, you are fully aware how mischievious and destructive they can be and you are fully aware how important neutering is and the complications if you do not.
If you have done your research and ready to go with everything the ferrets will need you want to make sure that you buy a healthy ferret from a knowlegable breeder or pet shop. Make sure the ferret is over 10 weeks old (if in doubt of their age then go elsewhere. Many say they are older then they are). Talk to the owner and find out a bit about the parents and see if you can see them, why they have bred, what they have been fed etc.
Don't rush into it. If you are not happy then take time to think about it.
Ferrets are much like people in that they all have different characters and traits which is why at Ferret-Land we try to match each ferret to owner.
The journey home. Make sure that you have a suitable carrier that they can not escape from. A well made cat carrier is good which you can put a water bottle on. Make sure the car is not to hot or cold and away from sunlight or draughts. Once home let them settle in. They are likely to need the toilet and want to investigate their new home. Some may settle in fine others may be scared and bite or even hiss so it is important to make sure they have time to settle in. Gradually build up the trust and let them come to you.
