Housing
Ferrets should not be left to roam the house unsupervised as there is just to many dangers in the home that these curious critters will find. If kept indoors they will need a suitable home while you are out giving them plenty of room as they would if outdoors.
Any cage should be large enough to allow your ferret room to move around, and not have their litter box, their bed and their eating area be right on top of one another. At Ferret-Land we believe that the best cages are adapted with your imagination to give the ferrets things to play with and investigate. Hutches should be no smaller than a Double 4ftx2ftx4ft but larger is recomended. Floors must be solid and not wire to prevent sores on feet.
The more Ferrets you keep, the more space they will need to play.
Ferrets have sensitive respiratory tracts, which causes them to be susceptible to fumes emitted by their urine and feaces. This means a wire cage should be used to help ventilation.
Any wire cage will need to have small gaps as they can squeeze through the tiniest of gaps. 1/2" gaps are recomended. Also make sure that any ramps or shelves that are made of wire have small enough openings that their feet will not get caught. Be sure the doors close securely so that these clever little creatures can not open the doors on their own.
Make sure that cages are not in sunlight so they do not get heat stroke, in drafts or to close to radiators. It is not good to put them in environments where they will keep going from hot to cold as they will get ill. Some ideas of suitable housing are:

Bedding
There are many choices for ferret bedding and many opinions. If using sawdust and straw make sure that it is suitable for pets and dust free as they have very sensitive respiratory systems and this dust can cause damage to the throat and lungs over a period of years.
Old t-shirts, towels can be used but considering can their nails get caught.
As to their toilet the best is ferret litter which acts like cat litter. It comes in pellet form which is less likely to clump to their feet giving less chance of the ferret ingesting it through cleaning themselves.
Toys
Ferrets love to play! Many people think of them as two year olds that never grow up. A bored ferret is often a destructive ferret so it's in your best interest and your ferret's to always have toys available. Their favorite toy will always be you so don't forget to interact with your ferret as much as possible. Some toys that ferrets like are tunnels, Hammocks, boxes with shredded paper, balls, squeaky toys etc. Be careful with stuffed animals, rubber toys and anything that they can pull apart and digest
